It is welcome news that "The Government of India has decided that, henceforth, players who are Indian citizens only can avail themselves of government assistance to represent the country in the national teams representing the country".
It would be ridiculous even to debate on such a topic. Nowhere else in the world does a country allow a non citizen to represent in national or international sports. It is surprising to even know that India was allowing this in the past. The Sports Ministry has taken a good decision. It is time that India stands up for itself in the international scene.
Not leaving sight of its balance it has also said " Whenever the benefit of dual citizenship is given by the Government of India, the Ministry would look afresh into the new situation," he added.
